Aman at Sea’s Amangati Just Hit the Water with a float out. Here’s What We Know About the New Ultra-Luxury Yacht
Aman at Sea has reached a long-awaited milestone: The brand's first ocean-going yacht, Amangati, floated out for the first time at the T. Mariotti shipyard in Genoa, Italy, on July 23, 2026. If you've been following the growth of the small ship yacht category the way we have, this is a big deal. The “Float Out” means the hull is finished, sealed, painted, and watertight, and the ship has officially moved from dry dock into the water.
We've covered small ship and expedition launches over the years, but Amangati stands out because of who's building it. Aman, the brand behind some of the world's most exclusive resorts, is bringing its philosophy to the water for the first time. Expect quiet luxury, generous space, minimal people, and a fantastic crew-to-guest ratio. With a maximum of just 94 guests, it fits squarely into the kind of small ship cruising we focus on at Sometimes Sailing.
What Happens Next
Float Out isn't the finish line. Amangati now moves to the outfitting quay in Genoa, where the interiors come together over the next several months. Its 47 ocean-facing suites, largest spa in luxury yachting, four restaurants, and lounges will be finished with a beautiful blend of what appears to be Japanese and Scandinavian-inspired interiors. Minimal, sleek, upscale.
Next comes sea trials, delivery, and final preparation before the first guests step aboard.
Aman at Sea’s First Sailing
That first sailing is set for May 7, 2027, a six-night voyage from Palma de Mallorca to Nice, opening an inaugural Mediterranean season of five- to eight-night voyages across the Mediterranean, Adriatic, Ionian, and Aegean. Aman at Sea has also opened reservations for a newly added Autumn 2027 Caribbean season, plus a transatlantic “Atlantic Passage” wellness crossing from Málaga to Antigua in November 2027.

An Awe-Inspiring Crew-to-Guest Ratio
We're always looking at the crew-to-guest ratio and suite count first, since that tells us how a ship will actually feel onboard — and Amangati's numbers are striking. At 180 meters (600 feet) and 23,000 gross tons, she's a large yacht. Yet she carries just 94 guests across 47 suites, each with a private terrace and full-height windows.
Crew numbers 207, for a jaw-dropping 2.2-to-1 crew-to-guest ratio, and every suite is assigned its own on-demand Suite Host.
Dining, Entertainment and the Largest Luxury Spa at Sea
Dining spans four restaurants: Alira for Mediterranean cuisine, Akari for Japanese, Hiori for teppanyaki, and Aman Grill. For entertainment, there's the Jazz Club, a Cigar Lounge (which we love, since we’ve enjoyed the cigar lounge on Riverside Luxury Cruises’ Mozart in the past), the Alira Pool Bar, the Bar at Aman Grill, Selora lounge, and a cinema.
The wellness space is notable: the Aman Spa is being built as the largest spa in luxury yachting, at 740 square meters (8,000 sq. ft.), with eight ocean-facing treatment rooms, each with its own private terrace and whirlpool. Additionally, there is a hammam, banya (sauna), fitness studio, yoga and meditation deck, beauty lounge, and Medi Spa.
A Playful Marina
Amangati has nine decks, and for time in the water, Amangati's Marina on Deck 3 is the place to be. Alongside the Selora waterfront lounge just off the marina, it features two floating platforms and a fleet of water toys.
Additional Amenities and Conveniences
Getting guests ashore or between ports is handled by four very attractive limousine tenders and two open sport tenders. There are two helipads on board, one forward on Deck 6 and one aft on Deck 9.
Why We're Watching This One
We talk a lot on our podcast about how the small ship space keeps splitting into new avenues. First river, then expedition and barge, and now this: hospitality-brand-led ultra-luxury yachting, where a 94-guest ship carries the same design pedigree as a five-star resort. Four Seasons Yachts and Ritz Carlton Yacht Club are in a similar class of ships.
Amangati won't be the only entrant in this category by the time she sails in 2027, but she'll be one of the most watched, simply because of the Aman name attached to her. (The recently launched, singular Orient Express is another one we have our eyes on.)
